As a one-time newspaper journalist, it is beyond sad to see how far all media has fallen. It was never perfect, but it has been hollowed out, bought out and with so many newspapers (including the one I worked at, The Albuquerque Tribune) shutdown, competition has died and local and state politics too often go unreported, which makes corruption thrive.
In Madison Wisconsin I attended a massive rally yesterday (12/9) opposing the US/Israeli genocide. I don't know the official number, but I am guessing it had to be about 1,000. It was well organized and ran smoothly. There were a number of Jewish protesters there carrying signs in support of Palestinians and condemning Israel's treatment of the Palestinians and the genocide. One of the speakers was an older Jewish woman who had been named after a child relative killed in the Holocaust. As she concluded her remarks she and the Muslim American woman leading the discussion embraced.
The group marched to the high-rise swanky condo Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) lives in and chanted and rallied. A number of residents peered out windows or came to the windows waving or holding a fist up in support. There were also frequent chants and signed opposed to "Genocide Joe" Biden.
This rally was like the Madison Uprising protests that got some much national attention in 2001.
The democrats are torching chances in 2024. Many at the rally were young and middle-age activists and clearly politically engaged folks. Baldwin is up for reelection this year. I know I absolutely will not vote for her. I met a Libertarian running for the seat at the rally. As a lefty I am in disagreement with half of what a Libertarian would stand for, but 50% would be better than the 100% betrayal from a dem like Baldwin.
On the way home I heard on the news Biden had earlier in the day okayed 13,000 tank shells being sent to Gaza. I cursed his name.
Great to hear how people in Madison are speaking out so forcefully. And it's good to know folks are starting to think outside the box of the duopoly... Is there a Green Party candidate running against Baldwin? There's a good lefty choice there.
Haven't heard of any other than the Libertarian. I have his card in my car and will give him a call tomorrow. I told him he is free to use any of the cartoons, illustrations or photos from my Substack or website. I haven't even heard of a Republican running against her. My guess announcements will come out after the holidays. The coming election will be a non-stop 24/7 poop show and one of the ugliest years since the Civil War.
Yeah, I'm not looking forward to the upcoming election season at all. I try to focus on what little I can do to help out the candidates I actually like and think will do a good job. The rest...I ignore if at all possible. I'm probably the only person on the planet who has never heard a presidential speech in over a decade. I just turn on the mute or flip over to another channel or video online. Keeps me sane if I only read the edited highlights of their ramblings later.
Me too. My tolerance for repetitious BS has dwindled to pretty much nothing. I used to listen to that pretty carefully but came to realize none of it was genuine and that at best they are sock puppets with a 20-point IQ.
Ugh. And this is the same Marci Kaptur who told Americans in 2008 to fight foreclosures because nobody could prove who had bought the mortgage. OTOH, she did nothing to help Dennis Kucinich when the Democrats decided to let Ohio Republicans gerrymander his district out of existence.

Yeah, dear ol' Marcy was very happy to steal Dennis' congressional seat when they gerrymandered the districts to eliminate the two different congressmembers from different sides of the state. She really needs to retire. Now. If we can't run a decent socialist against her, then the full-size guillotine might be necessary.
