We’ve Got The Power!

Oftentimes, we don’t realize that all is not lost. We haven’t hit a roadblock like we thought. There is a path forward.
This is one of those times.
The Uniting for Peace resolution was made at the United Nations General Assembly this past week by Colombian President Gustavo Petro. He is now talking with other countries, such as the ones that comprise the Hague Group, to build a protective force for Gaza. (The US has since revoked Petro’s visa for his courage to speak so boldly at the UN. An illegal move, but what would you expect of Trump?)
More nations have recognized Palestine as a state than ever before. Spain, Italy, and recently Turkiye have sent naval escorts to protect the Global Sumud Flotilla. Every large city in Italy has held massive pro-Palestine protests and the longshoreman have vowed to go on strike to prevent the transport of military supplies to Israel.
So, even if the Western governments look like they’re not doing anything much to end the genocide in Gaza, there are some tiny, incremental changes happening for the better that will lead to a positive outcome. Yeah, I know—what’s happening seems very little and very late in the game, but it’s what we got.
Now is the time to play our cards well and pull out all the stops. No holding back—let those horses run free! (Sorry for the mixed metaphors. I’m writing this in the car while traveling home from my brother’s wedding. Little sleep over the weekend doesn’t help, either.)
Have you been sending those daily emails to your United Nations representatives telling them to support the Uniting for Peace measure? Get on that task right away if you haven’t and do it again even if you have. Are you feeling like all the emailing and petition signings are a waste of time? Maybe they’re not… We’re seeing changes in attitudes towards Palestine from politicians from all over the globe, but in particular from the West lately. Perhaps We of the 99%, the marginalized, the workers of the world and our actions are more persuasive, more powerful, and more potent than we realize.
The Italian people pressured their government into sending a naval escort ship to protect the flotilla sailing toward Gaza. Now that is power! Why do you feel you or your people have any less ability to pressure those who are preventing the UN from securing peace in Palestine? Remember, the Uniting for Peace resolution is veto-proof and requires only a two-thirds majority vote of the General Assembly. It’s completely doable. It just needs to be done.
I’m certain that all human beings have the power to make the world a better place. The questions are: Will we use our power for good? and Why wouldn’t we use our power now?
The answer to the first question remains to be seen, but the second question’s answer is perplexing. Why would anyone block us from achieving justice for the Palestinian people? Wouldn’t they want to end the genocide and aid the rebuilding of Gaza as soon as possible? Who are these “closet-Zionists”? Is there anything we can do to stop them?
I honestly believe that some folks do not realize that they are essentially working against the best interests of both themselves and the Palestinians. They have placed their trust in so-called “progressive” groups or political parties. Unfortunately, the organizers and backers of these groups/parties are not entirely trustworthy. Their intentions are not always for the betterment of Palestine, in other words. When good people are led astray by groups/parties like these, our power to end the genocide is diminished.
Word to the wise: Always check out who is behind all actions you are interested in becoming involved with. Do they advertise that they are supporting a permanent ceasefire in Gaza? Do they announce publicly they recognize the state of Palestine? If not, then they could be Zionists in disguise, trying to trick you into thinking that the genocide of innocents isn’t all that important in the scheme of things. Nothing could be further from the truth!
Don’t let anyone steal your power to do good away from you. These devious types may have ulterior motives—like trying to convince you to support their AIPAC-owned candidates running for office. Run away screaming from anyone who tells you that a permanent ceasefire in Gaza isn’t worth the time or that indigenous people like the Palestinians do not have the right to live in peace on their own land.
You can’t please everybody, so don’t worry if you make these closet-Zionists unhappy. They are part of the enemy that our powers should be directed against. They are profiting from ethnic cleansing/genocide. They should be shunned from decent society for the sick bastards they are.
Your power should be used for the good of the oppressed, your fellow workers, not billionaires and their political-puppets or flunkies. Haven’t they made enough money selling and transporting weapons to Israel—a sadistic regime that happily bombs innocent men, women, and children?
You have my permission to tell these genocidal sadists to f*ck off.
We’ve got the power. Our recent actions prove it. So why not use our power and intensify our efforts? Let’s work on enacting a worldwide general strike. Let’s spread information about boycotts to everyone we meet. Why should the Italians be the only ones that can enact a strike and close down their ports to arms being sent to Israel?
Activists in Oakland, California (see video below) attempted just such a feat recently. Were they successful? It all depends on your definition of success. Poll after poll demonstrate that Americans want to stop selling and shipping arms to Israel. These brave activists have struck a chord of fear into the heart of American Zionism. I’d call their action successful.
We need to see more actions. We need to repeat them over and over again until our objectives are met. Oakland today and tomorrow? You decide.
It’s time to stop putting ourselves down. The pro-Palestine emails and phone calls and actions are working. We can see in real time that we’re freaking out the genocidaires and their accomplices. We’re refusing to go along with their propaganda blurbs and narrative spin, and they’re dropping their jaws in shock and awe. It’s a form of psychological warfare on a grand scale. The narcissists’ heads of the Trump/Netanyahu administration are spinning!
But we have to keep it up. We can do this. We’ve got the power! Never forget it.

It's good to know that together our efforts do produce fruit. So many times we're told that we're all alone in our activism and that we can't possibly change things for the better. It's time we listened to our gut instincts and keep fighting these bastards until they run off with their tails between their legs. We got the power, people! Don't be afraid to use it!
