The Biden Administration wants to replace Trump's infamous "Title 42" deportation program, and yes, it's fairly horrendous. Everyone who reads this should send in a comment by the March 27th deadline and pass the link along. Lives are at stake. Asylum rights are human rights.
I take your point. I honestly see some of the more egregious parts of Biden's Asylum-Transit Ban as a way of creating more and more "cheap and easily dominated" labor for capitalists. Since those who do not "enter with inspection" (EWI) through a port of entry will be unable to apply for asylum after they're in the US under Biden's proposed rule, they make for a great underclass of workers to be used, abused and then turned over to ICE for removal when the corporation has no more need of their labor. After a big raid and round-up of undocumented workers during the Trump administration, I asked a union organizer what he thought and he honestly said that corporations/capitalists do NOT want migrant laborers to be able to apply for asylum, receive LPR status (Green Card) and stay legally and openly in the US. The businesses want to be able to hold the threat of snitching on their undocumented workers to ICE over their heads so the workers don't get too bold and ask for a living wage, benefits, etc. Every so many years, you just call on CBP/ICE and have these laborers deported and you hire more scared people living without documentation. This sort of stunt truly exposes the heartlessness and evil of capitalists.
I hear you. Yes, you're probably right. It does make a lot of sense. They're possibly pushing all these agendas forward simultaneously, to squeeze as much as they can out of the poor and desperate.
Thank you for this. It seems to me that this might have more to do with data capitalism and 'impact investing' (as part of the 'digital revolution' of the new tracked and traced and harvested world we're being moved into of 'the great reset'). Thank you for all you do 🙏
