The Founders Would Be Proud
We don't know what they'd have thought of current events, but we can make a good guess at what they'd think of the candidates running for office.
The Founders Would Be Proud
by C.A. Matthews
It’s not every day that I say something like this, so please take note.
The Founders (a.k.a. The Founding Fathers of the United States of America) had a good idea when it came to making a permanent separation between church and state. It may have been one of only a handful of good ideas they ever had, being handicapped with their white, wealthy, Eurocentric, males-only, slavery-is-good-for-business worldview. But it is impressive that they foresaw a day when the need to be a strictly secular state (government) would be to their—and consequently our—benefit. So, for this insight I heartily thank them.
I do believe there were “Founding Mothers and Others-of-the-Non-White-Male Variety” as well, but in this case, we're sticking with the "Fathers" who wrote our founding documents. I was reminded of their wisdom concerning church/state separation when Dr. Jill Stein gave one of the most brilliant rebuttals of all time at the recent Free and Equal Debate.
The Constitution Party candidate, Randall Terry, had just given the most sick and twisted rant imaginable. I don’t know much about the Constitution Party, but if this is their pick for president, I really don’t want to know anything more about them. Terry’s diatribe went along the lines that Americans should believe as he does (seemingly he’s an ultra-conservative, Zionist “Christian”) and that those of the Muslim faith are dangerous terrorists and deserve to be killed in Gaza (and elsewhere). He actually sounded like he would start another Crusade if he ever got into the White House. His verbal vomit of sheer naked bigotry sent shivers down my spine.
Dr. Stein’s reply to Terry’s steaming pile of Islamophobia was eloquent and to the point. Watch a clip on X/Twitter or on You Tube:

Randall Terry’s rant and Jill Stein’s rebuttal starts at approx. 1:20 and goes to about 1:24.
Doesn’t Dr. Stein’s response inspire confidence that America isn’t going to return to the bloodshed and division of the European Middle Ages? That we’re not going to force the racist ideology of Zionism down everyone’s throats? Make every American swear allegiance to the “Christianity” of the Randall Terry variety and that all other religions are outlawed?
Jill Stein demonstrates compassion and empathy that is so missing in the realm of politics. She actually understands what the Founders were saying about the separation of church and state. The two should never mix. It will only lead to bloody conflicts such as the Founders’ ancestors had suffered back in Europe before they immigrated to North America.
And this is why I think the Founders would be proud of Jill Stein and her campaign for the presidency.
Meanwhile, we have Kamala “Holocaust” Harris and her tone-deaf reply to a serious question from a voter who wondered if Harris would stop the genocide of Palestinians. You can watch her response here:
https://twitter.com/DrJillStein/status/1849919390998786074
You’re not dreaming; you heard it right: Harris actually equates the lives of human beings being massacred in Gaza with American-supplied armaments with average voters being more concerned over how much a carton of eggs cost. My immediate reaction to this callous reply was: Most voters are probably decent human beings who are more troubled over the mass murder of innocent people in Gaza than they’re worried over the greedflation which has flourished during your administration. Did you ever consider the possibility that others could possess a conscience, Kamala?
Indie blogger Caitlin Johnstone’s analysis is spot on:
In essence she [Harris] says that people who have strong feelings about the genocide in Gaza need to get over it and vote for her anyway if they want abortions and affordable groceries, because she supports the genocide and that’s not going to change… she’s not saying anything different from what liberals have been shouting for months at Americans who oppose the Gaza genocide, but she’s not supposed to say that! She’s not supposed to come right out and admit that she’s a genocidal monster and too bad because the other candidate is the greater evil. That’s normally the sort of disgusting manipulation you let other people do for you while pretending to be a good person.
The only positive thing coming out of this nightmare is that it’s exposing the real monsters for who they are... From The ‘Genocide-for-Groceries’ Candidate
What does a moral and empathetic presidential candidate think about Harris’ dismal answer?
From Jill Stein’s campaign:
While coldly acknowledging that people have “strong feelings” about viewing the images of innocents being massacred by U.S. supplied bombs in the first genocide that’s ever been livestreamed to the world, she [Harris] quickly pivoted to other issues that she believes people “concerned” about “this issue” also care about – oddly leading with “the price of groceries” when it was under the Biden-Harris administration that the cost of feeding ourselves and our families skyrocketed out of control.
Somehow, I don’t think the Founders would be proud of Harris’ response or candidacy in general. The gaslighting of voters by her and her boss “Genocide Joe” has been astounding these past few years. The outright propaganda that spokespersons from the White House has spewed forth is downright sickening. They even go as far as to deny there is an actual genocide in Gaza occurring with the help of US arms! Even more gross than the White House propaganda (often just a repackaging of Israeli hasbara) is the sycophantic mainstream media pundits who have gone along with it and helped to spread it.
Possibly the only other thing the Founders got right besides freedom of (and from) religion was their insistence on freedom of speech and freedom of the press. The censorship of independent journalists and journalism this past year alone has been nightmarish. More journalists have been killed in the genocide happening in Gaza than in all the wars of the 20th century combined. The Biden-Harris administration doesn’t want anyone to know the truth of what is happening with US-supplied bunker-busting bombs being dropped on refugee tent camps and United Nations schools full of displaced families in the Gaza strip.
Would the Founders (and I mean “Founding Fathers” in particular) have approved of the US arming and funding a genocide in a far away land? Possibly they would have likened it to their own genocide of the Native American peoples, but I believe they would have been puzzled as to why the US would want to help another country do its dirty work. I mean, the Native American “savages,” as the indigenous people were called in the Declaration of Independence, posed a direct threat to the white man’s colonization of the North American continent. Why would these white-slave-owning-males feel threatened by Palestinian villagers overseas?
For that matter, why do Americans feel threatened by them today?
But freedom of speech and a free press… I think the Founders would have not approved of the assassination of journalists. Whatever their faults, the Founders would have felt the public had the right to know exactly what was going on in their names.
Independent journalist and award-winning author Chris Hedges sums up well what has happened to our free press this past year:
The most important impediment to Israel’s mass hypnosis are the Palestinian journalists in Gaza. This is why the kill rate is so high. It is why U.S. officials say nothing. They, too, hate real journalists. They, too, demand reporters domesticate themselves to scurry like rats from one choreographed press event to the next.
The U.S. government says and does nothing to protect the press because it endorses Israel’s campaign against the media, as it endorses Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Journalists, along with the Palestinians, are to be extinguished.
You have to wonder what would happen if George Washington or Thomas Jefferson or John Adams could have time-traveled into the future about 250 years from the beginning of the American War of Independence. Would they recognize their own country in the 21st century? What would they think of presidential candidates like Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, and Dr. Jill Stein?
Sure, two women candidates of non-WASP (White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant) backgrounds and the interconnected world of the internet and cell phones would throw them for a loop at first. But once they got over the initial shock of women and non-WASPs having the same rights as white males, I think they would be dismayed at how crass and callous the so-called “major factions” had become and the low quality of their candidates. They’d probably shake their heads in disbelief at the idea of the government actively trying to censor information on social media platforms as well.
After all, their desire was to break away from a tyrannical system of government operating from overseas that didn’t work for them. They wanted to express themselves in the press without hindrance from just such a government. To witness the gaslighting of Harris over enabling a genocide and Trump, an expert an whipping up race hatred and class envy, probably would disappoint them deeply. But I believe they would have felt a kindred spirit with Dr. Jill Stein.
Jill Stein understands what the Founders wanted in their new nation. They wanted a safe home for all Americans (we’ll stretch that a bit to include all non-whites/non-males in this era), and they wanted Americans to have the freedom to experience “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Universal health care, free education, and the forgiveness of student loan debt that Jill Stein and the Green Party advocate for would go a long way in helping Americans reach those cherished goals the Founders wrote about so long ago.
Freedom of speech/freedom of the press (with no more censorship or propaganda propagation from the government), an end to our endless wars for oil, and stopping our aid to Israel as it commits a genocide of innocents in Gaza would impress the Founders that Dr. Stein is very serious about our pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness.
Helping the US to take action to create a cleaner, greener world through cooperation with other nations proves that Jill Stein wants only the best for us and our children. She isn’t in this race just to mudsling her opponents and gaslight voters like the candidates of the twin parties of War and Wall Streets are so fond of doing.
Maybe it’s time we listen to the Founders’ wisdom and stop playing games with our politics by giving in to what the oligarchs/billionaires want. Stop voting for the Red and Blue Teams. Let’s vote for the greater good—not the “lesser evil.” Let freedom ring by voting wisely for the candidate of “People, Planet and Peace.”
I think the Founders would be proud if each of us followed our conscience.

I'm voting my conscience and it says to vote for Dr. Jill Stein and Professor Butch Ware. I'm not letting those heartless genocide supporters shame me out of doing what is right. The founding fathers probably would be horrified at how every duopoly politician is in the pockets of AIPAC and the MIC. At least they could think for themselves back then! Jill Stein will bring us back to We the People, not maintain the corrupt status quo.
