Imagine living in a world where we’re not extinct yet but flourishing. It isn’t easy, but we must try, if not for our own sake then for our children’s.

It’s been a long two years, hasn’t it? So many people have stopped speaking to others they don’t see eye-to-eye with. To quote an old cliché: Things will never be the same again.

Now on top of a live-streamed genocide and a proxy war sponsored by NATO, we have World War III potentially brewing. It’s not like most of us didn’t see it coming. Americans have been itching to take out Iran since 1979. Saying it’s Israel that’s actually doing the dirty deed is just another lie in a multitude of lies, false narratives, and propaganda dumps. It’s American planes and bombs and military intelligence that’s at the heart of it all. And if we’re not careful, it will soon be American soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen who will take the brunt of the casualties.

Vietnam with possible nuclear bombs. That’s the image that springs to mind.

We can’t rely on our government officials because they’re profiting way too much from the sales of arms to act sane and rational.

We have to become our own heroes. Or else we’ll become a part of our own extinction.

Imagine living in a world where you could get arrested for saying “Don’t kill the children!” because it might hurt the feelings of the killer.

Imagine living in a world where all children are cherished and taken well care of, always have enough to eat, a safe place to live, access to a decent education, and medical care whenever necessary.

Imagine living in a world where your country uses your tax dollars to provide the armaments, bombs, planes, and bullets for a genocide of innocents and won’t allow you to speak out against these war crimes upon pain of prosecution.

Imagine living in a world where you are free to speak your mind about the immorality of genocidal war crimes no matter how it casts a dark shadow upon the reputations of those in power, the oligarchs, their political henchmen, and their celebrity endorsers, and your tax dollars go to support programs that actually serve the public.

Imagine living in a world where proxy wars have become commonplace and your tax dollars go to finance these conflicts in order for wealthy CEOs in the oil industry, the military-industrial complex and related industries to make even more billions at the expense of millions of lives.

Imagine living in a world where the polluting fossil fuels industry is no more because clean and plentiful sources of green energy from the sun, the wind, the tides, and the geothermal activities of the Earth itself have been developed and made available to all, thus making the need to start wars for oil and other resource grabs entirely unnecessary.

Imagine living in a world where knowledge itself is frowned upon and scientists and scientific agencies are defunded because of inconvenient truths such as the climate crisis, rising ocean levels, and melting glaciers don’t appeal to the oligarchs in charge.

Imagine living in a world where education and all forms of learning and broadening our understanding of science and technology and human beings’ place in the universe is considered of the upmost importance.

Imagine living in a world where people of certain races, genders, gender identities, and socioeconomic groups live much shorter and much more difficult lives than wealthy, cis-gendered, white people living in the very same country.

Imagine living in a world where all people live long, happy, and productive lives because discrimination against a person’s perceived race, gender, gender identity is illegal and those laws are enforced and bigots are given a remedial education and psycho-therapy to be cured of their mental illnesses.

Imagine living in a world where only a handful of billionaires own the major media outlets—television, radio, film, magazines, newspapers, and internet platforms—and exercise complete control over the narrative, making sure that it pleases the billionaires of the oligarchy and their endless war machine.

Imagine living in a world where monopolies are broken up and public broadcasting opportunities are plentiful, resulting in a wide variety of narratives and news sources for the public’s edification, awakening the people’s sensibilities and abilities to detect outright lies and propaganda.

Imagine living in a world where business corporations have more rights than actual flesh and blood human beings, and they are free to pollute and destroy the planet’s ecosystems, hunt and slaughter its creatures to extinction.

Imagine living in a world where human beings and their human rights always come first and foremost above corporations, and work in harmony to care for Mother Nature and all her creatures and creations, both great and small.

Imagine living in a world where being an immigrant is feared and despised, especially in the country that created the horrendous living conditions in the country that they were forced to flee from in the first place.

Imagine living in a world where there are no borders, no man-made constructs or pretend divisions or walls that separate human beings from their fellow human beings, and all are happy to celebrate their differences and learn from each other.

Imagine living in a world where the powers-that-be dictate what you are to say, think, feel, do, and endure, threatening any who express differing opinions or oppose their diktats with severe punishments and possible imprisonment.

Imagine living in a world where the arts and music and spirituality and religion are diverse and freely shared without fear of discrimination or death, not mandated and forced down the public’s throats.

Imagine living in a world where the elderly and sick are forced to work for slave wages and end up living in tents on the streets in cities that deem them “criminals,” cruelly sweeping away their few personal belongings into the trash and sending them away to live in another unwelcoming place.

Imagine living in a world where people of all ages and abilities and backgrounds are treated with kindness and respect and given freely whatever it is they need to survive—food, clothing, shelter, health care, social services.

Imagine living in a world where displays of militarism, racism, ageism, sexism, xenophobia, and “othering” are seen as something to celebrate and enjoy at the cost of disenfranchising and dehumanizing your fellow human beings.

Imagine living in a world where celebrations embrace the rich diversity of individuals and insights and are known more for those they include than for those they exclude.

Imagine living in a world where starting a possible world war is thought of as a “good thing” and nuclear warfare is “winnable” in spite of a vast library of evidence to the contrary.

Imagine living in a world where the idea of any war—let alone a full-scale Armageddon—is thought of as the most horrific thing imaginable and would never be threatened or seriously contemplated, let alone imagined.

Imagine living in that world.
