If anyone deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, it’s Francesca Albanese. Hands down, she is the gutsiest and most moral human being alive on the planet today.

Serving as the United Nations’ Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Territories of Palestine is a tough job, and Francesca Albanese knew when she took on the position that she was bound to make her share of enemies. However, the vile things coming out of the mouths of genocide-enabler Donald Trump and his boyfriend, genocide-instigator Benjamin Netanyahu, about Albanese’s recent work reporting on the economic conditions of the genocide in Gaza are unbelievable.

Even US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had to get in on the feces-slinging by “sanctioning” her for standing up for the Palestinian people’s human rights. He posted on X:

Today I am imposing sanctions on UN Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese for her illegitimate and shameful efforts to prompt @IntlCrimCourt action against U.S. and Israeli officials, companies, and executives.

Rubio, a former “human rights attorney,” is coming down heavy on a fellow human rights attorney? Is this a Monty Python sketch or am I just dreaming? If it is a dream, it’s a nightmare, that’s for certain.

Will Francesca Albanese suffer personally from US sanctions simply for doing her job? I hope not. UN special rapporteurs do enjoy full diplomatic immunity under international law, and legal experts suggest that US sanctions could be the subject of proceedings before the International Court of Justice:

Albanese was sanctioned by the US on Wednesday in connection with her work as a UN expert scrutinizing Israeli and US actions in occupied Palestine. She is the first UN expert in history to be the subject of sanctions.

The 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the UN, to which the US is a party, enshrines the immunity of UN special rapporteurs from legal process of any kind. The immunity granted to UN experts aims at enabling them to carry out their work independently without interruption.

The ICJ, the UN's highest court, does not have jurisdiction over the US in contentious inter-state disputes without its consent. In spite of the pressures and threats from bullies such as Trump and Rubio, Ms. Albanese carries on. She even calmly explained why she’s under fire for exposing state and corporate complicity in Israel's genocide:

It's a sign the system is cracking; it is punching back. But it will only win if we are scared, if we stop standing with one another.

Good advice. We need to stand with each other and not let the bullies shut us down.

The system is cracking, but it’s possibly not quite the system most imagine. While many Americans are hoping for the eventual demise of the Trump administration and the fall of Netanyahu’s Israel, these are not the systems that the special rapporteur has threatened in her latest report.

In From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide, Albanese has committed the unpardonable sin of threatening the real power behind the toy thrones that Trump and his fellow heads of state currently occupy. She has threatened the worldwide oligarchy itself.

Top economists have said “[The report] constitutes a major contribution to understanding the political economy of Israel’s Apartheid state, the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and, now, their genocide.”

The economists further testified:

[Israeli] occupation and genocide are highly lucrative for conglomerates. These include not only the usual arms and ‘defense’ big businesses (e.g., Lockheed-Martin, the primary maker of the F35s, ELBIT, Israel’s own arms manufacturer, and Palantir, the software company whose algorithms have most likely been crucial in the selection of ‘targets’ across Gaza) but also household brand names (e.g., Caterpillar, BNP Paribas, Barclays, Allianz, Chevron, BP, Petrobas, A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S).

The second finding in Ms Albanese’s report that deserves extensive study is that the Palestinian territories Israel occupies have functioned as Big Tech’s ideal laboratory and testing ground – a function that the transition from occupation to genocide has only heightened. No country, for instance, has given as much access to a population’s biometric data as Israel has given to IBM. Since October 7, 2023, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet and Palantir have been expanding their cloud capital services at a breathtaking pace. Face recognition software, target selection algorithms and automated execution systems are being tested in real time, at will, and with fewer ethical constraints than in the case of experiments on laboratory rats. The third key finding is that top US and European universities are financially dependent on remaining wedded to Israel’s Apartheid and permanent occupation/conflict political economy. Francesca Albanese has spilled the beans on the true evil behind the genocide of the Palestinian people. She has listed over 200 corporations that are making substantial profits from the deaths of innocent Palestinians. Some of the companies mentioned in the report you may or may not already be boycotting or divesting from such as American firms Caterpillar, Airbnb, and Lockheed Martin, South Korea’s HD Hyundai, Sweden’s Volvo Group, France's BNP Paribas and the UK's Barclays Bank. The Big Oil companies British Petroleum (BP) and Chevron are mentioned as well.

In her report to the United Nations Human Rights Council, Albanese has called for the International Criminal Court and national judicial systems of UN countries to pursue investigations and prosecutions of these genocidal corporate executives and companies. The report also calls on United Nations member states to pursue sanctions and asset freezes against these war profiteers.

Now, this isn’t something that your average diplomat usually does—snitch on the war machine profiteers—but Ms. Albanese has taken it upon herself to be totally honest with the public. She’s naming names and calling these companies to account. And of course, the billionaire CEOs are shocked and horrified that anyone—let alone a lowly UN special rapporteur—would expose their complicity in genocide.

The tech industries are the worst of the lot, in my opinion. While many in the West casually tout the advantages of AI and how it might make life better in the future, the Israelis have been using AI to target and massacre individuals and entire families in Gaza. These AI companies can now brag about the murderous accuracy of their killer products. There’s unlimited money to be made from military AI uses, especially AI products that have been tested under such rigorous field conditions.

And all this at the cost of only about half-million Palestinian lives… What a bargain! these wealthy Big Tech CEOs cry.

It’s one thing to call out mealy mouthed politicians who work for the oligarchy, but to call out the actual oligarchs like the CEOs of Chevron and Palantir? Francesca Albanese is extremely brave and bold to speak truth to such power. Sure, the US “sanctioning” her is going to make her life difficult if she has any money invested in the US or if she or her immediate family ever wishes to travel here—for her job at the UN, for instance—but can you imagine what Chevron alone can do to her?

Just look at what Chevron has done to US human rights lawyer Steven Donziger:

Donziger helped Amazon Indigenous peoples and farmer communities in Ecuador win a landmark $9.5 billion pollution judgment against Chevron. He then spent almost three years under house arrest and in prison after being detained by Chevron in the nation's first corporate prosecution based on a questionable "contempt of court" charge. Chevron also took his law license and confiscated his passport. If Mr. Donziger is not pardoned, it is likely that thousands of people in the Amazon facing an imminent risk of death from Chevron's pollution will be left defenseless.

So, say a prayer for Francesca and her family, because with this many CEOs being called out for their genocide-profiteering, there’s bound to be a serious attempt on her life or liberty—or even the lives or liberty of her family members—at some point. That is, if We the People don’t take down the capitalists first.

To those who think the special rapporteur doesn’t know what she’s doing, more than likely it’s the oligarchs who don’t. As Ms. Albanese has said:

I truly hope that people understand what’s happening.

I’m a UN pro bono official, I’m not even paid. Yet suddenly I’m a threat to the global economy. Why? Because I asked big tech to comply with international law and stop profiteering from genocide.

You can’t get any clearer than that.

I’m 100% certain that the corporations that make up Big Tech don’t want their cash flow from the genocide cut off. They will do everything in their power to keep things the way they are in Palestine. They will continue to prop up politician-puppets like Trump, Netanyahu, Starmer, and Carney who will let Big Tech keep doing what they’re doing and making billions (if not trillions) of dollars for themselves.

The merger of corporations and the state has a name… A name that an Italian dictator named Mussolini gave to it: Fascism. Francesca Albanese, an Italian national, comprehends well how destructive and determined fascists are just from studying her own country’s history. She wouldn’t want a system that is openly against human rights to continue its murderous genocide of innocents. She will never stop fighting against it.

For that motive alone, Francesca Albanese deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. Sign the petition nominating her and the brave and tireless doctors of Gaza here. I can’t think of better nominees and role models of courage.
