Escaping the Nightmare

This beautifully produced short video (above) spoke to me this week. Watch it and see what I mean.

Entitled Escaping the Duopoly Nightmare: A Tribute to the Fearless! the video gives one hope that there is a large enough percentage of Americans out there who actually “get it” and who are escaping the nightmare of the faux US democracy established and maintained by the billionaire oligarchs. These folks aren’t crying into their beers/coffee cups. They’re making plans on how they’ll fight back, and it could lead to building a strong alternative party that represents the working class, not the one-percent, in the near future.

To put this in the vernacular: Smart voters ain’t buying into the rich dudes’ lies anymore. They’re taking their business elsewhere. They’re starting their own workers’ party, far away from the brain dead, bought-off Red and Blue MAGAts. They’re going to put the people in charge, not the corporations.

Amen to these brave visionaries! Could the Revolution be just around the corner?

Meanwhile across the globe, brave Pakistanis are escaping from a nightmare not of their own making, protesting the undemocratic government that Western-aligned oligarchs have forced upon them. The capital of Islamabad is flooded with protesters demanding the release of former democratically-elected-then-forced-out-of-power-and-imprisoned Prime Minister Imran Khan. The US imposed military junta has a dismal record of human rights violations and election interference, so is it any wonder that the people have risen up and wish to release their preferred leader from prison?

Military-backed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the shooting of protestors, cut internet access, and blocked roads into the capital in an attempt to suppress the demonstrations that have popped up just about everywhere. The rest of the world isn’t supposed to know what’s happening in Pakistan, but with or without publicity or protection, the Pakistani people are rising up against their unwanted, Western-backed government in order to end their nightmare of repression.

Power to the people! May their Revolution take root and inspire others!

But for every mass movement of humanity that fights back against unjust laws and repression, there is always at least one group that will attempt to shove the people down into their place in an attempt to silence them forever. This article gives us this bad news:

Once again, the long tentacles of AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) and its subsidiaries have reached out to strangle the pro-Palestine movement on US college campuses. No longer is American academia to be a bastion of free speech. No, it’s to become a brainwashing factory that only allows one view on the genocide of the Palestinians by the Israeli military.

That viewpoint is, of course, the ethnic cleansing of the indigenous people of Palestine is completely necessary and that the US is right in arming and funding the bloody Israeli occupiers. There’s no room for any arguments as to the morality of mercilessly mass murdering Palestinian children according to the Zy–oh–nist donors of billions of dollars to America’s universities.

But this isn’t going down well with the college kids. They’ve been rising up, camping out, demonstrating, and protesting for Palestinian rights for over a year. They’re not about to shut up or shut down. The students have been demanding—quite loudly—for their higher institutes of learning to divest their financial investments from Israeli corporations and the state of Israel itself.

No wonder the US Congress is trying to pass a law forcing universities to stop divesting from Israel. The pressure from Congress members’ Zy–oh–nist donors must have been intense. Can you imagine Congress members going without the millions of dollars they receive from AIPAC and their related political action committees every two years to run for office? It’s like taking a fish out of water and telling it to keep breathing! There’s no way they’re going to allow the tradition of intellectual discussion on US college campuses compromise their gravy train if there’s a chance the students conclude that genocide is their red line. There’s no way Congress can risk that, since they know the kids actually possess consciences unlike them.

I have faith in the students who support Palestine that they won’t back down no matter what their universities or Congress tries to pull over on them. Power to the students and all who fight for social justice for oppressed peoples everywhere!

Sometime though, the nightmare doesn’t seem willing to let us escape—ever. I was born into the terror of the Cold War, and it seems as though I will die in that same terror. Sure, American powers-that-be have re-labeled their Cold Warring as the “War on Terror” since 9/11, but nothing much has changed.

The West still sees itself as a beacon of democracy in a world full of communist dictatorships, even if Soviet-style communism is no more, and the West is hardly a beacon of anything remotely democratic when it comes to how it rules over its own people. Don’t believe me? See the above mention of how Congress wants to shut down our free speech as it follows the orders of a foreign power, namely Israel, rather than those of the American people. The nuclear warriors of the US military-industrial complex are gearing up to start the nuclear war my parents feared was going to happen during the Cuban Missile Crisis all those years ago. Allowing the Ukrainian dictator Zelensky (he’s no longer an “elected official”) to shoot US and NATO missiles that are capable of carrying nuclear warheads into Russia could set off a nuclear Armageddon, or at the very least a particularly nasty conventional war.

According to CodePink Congress:

Biden, on November 17, crossed his own red line to approve of Ukraine’s use of US-supplied ballistic missiles to strike deep inside Russia. In response, Russia revised its nuclear doctrine to lower the threshold on the use of nuclear weapons to consider an attack by a non-nuclear armed state supported by a nuclear-armed power as a joint assault.
Two days later the Biden White House sent Ukraine anti-personnel mines or cluster bombs outlawed in much of the world. Then on November 21st, Russia fired an experimental ballistic missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead at the Ukrainian city of Dnipro…
The real possibility of a nuclear catastrophe lies before our eyes as Russia considers a nuclear-capable US/NATO military base in Poland a potential target.

Since Ukraine has pretty much used up all their soldiers, guess whose sons (and daughters possibly) will be “automatically drafted” into fighting this conflict against superior Russian forces? Your first guess will probably be the right one if you’ve been keeping up with the situation. There will be no running to Canada to avoid the draft like there was for Americans during the Vietnam War either, as Canadian soldiers will also be drafted into this nightmare because of Canada being a member of NATO. They’ll send runaway Americans right to the Ukrainian front alongside their children. (Sorry folks, the MIC has learned from its mistakes of the Vietnam War era. They now make all the Western nations take responsibility for their fair share of cannon fodder.)

The US military-security state doesn’t seem to believe in the dangers of radiation apparently in their discussions of “winnable” nuclear attacks, but when did they really care about the public’s health and safety? They just want to take out any government that stands in their way of taking natural resources they’ve had their eyes on for some time. In Ukraine, it’s rare earth metals that haven’t been mined out yet such as cobalt and lithium, which are useful in more than just your cell phone battery. Plus, there’s always oil and gas reserves… What’s a few tactical nukes dropped to get rid of the competition, right?

Is there anyway of escaping this nuclear war nightmare that has lasted several generations now? The only real way out is diplomacy and open discussion. Fortunately, wiser heads may prevail. The No Nuclear War: A Call for Reason event is to be held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, on December 7. The danger of nuclear war and the options available to prevent this nightmare will be discussed by leading experts.

It’s a start, but we’ll need more than just sane experts discussing this topic—we need to hear the bought-off Congress members and the president (there still is one, right?) discussing the prevention of a nuclear escalation as well. But will they listen to reason when they’re being paid by the MIC lobby not to?

That’s the question that keeps me and many others awake at night. We the People have to use our powers of persuasion—boycott, divest, and sanction, along with calling a general strike—to force them to listen to us. We can’t simply write emails, postcards, and make phone calls to our “electeds” and expect them to take action. The 2014 Princeton Study shows it doesn’t work. They listen only to those who write the big checks.

We have to get tough on them. We have to make them fear us more than they do AIPAC and the MIC lobby. This is when the idea of Revolution means more than just escaping our nightmares—it means running toward our only chance of survival.

It’s up to us to save our planet from the climate crisis—which includes the threat of nuclear winter. No law that threatens to take away our rights to free speech or the right to divest from a genocidal regime or to protest in the streets and on college campuses is going to stop us if we truly believe we are standing on the right side of history. We know we are.
