There are monsters in human form and they live among us. It seems those in charge of world affairs are nothing but monsters, psychopaths and sociopaths.

I am not a fan of dehumanizing any people. Israeli soldiers are committing war crimes, they are criminals and child murders, and they are human. Monsters and demons are dehumanizing terms. Literally any person could be made to kill, even children, if convinced of the necessity of it. Same goes for Joe and Netanyahu, etc. These monsters are human and defeating them takes knowledge and all the empathy that the "inhuman" deny to others.

Okay, I finished the article. Sort of. Skimmed the last bit. It mentions empathy and not replacing the old monsters with new ones. It mentions empathy for those that the "monsters" deny empathy to. I agree fully with that, and want to add: we need empathy for our monsters too. That doesn't mean not doing the absolute most to remove them from power, power over others isnt a "right" or "priviledge" anyone can deserve or earn. But, this same article could be written if you replaced all the references to Israelis with Palestinians, and Netanyahu/etc with whoever the fascists have decided is their worst enemy. The language wouldn't change. The way we think should not be this similar to how the fascists think. Very reactionary, etc etc.

I know Monsters and Horror movies are the gimick of this article.

I don't like it. Most horror movies still follow Haze Code rules, where sinners are killed by the monster first, and only the white, chaste Final Girl survives to the end.

We aren't the final girl, chaste and superior, our monsters to defeat are the control these people exercize over others, it doesn't matter what person is weilding the control.

Blinken gets my vote for "Monster of the Year"! Kamala Harris would be second because she tried so hard to not look like the monster she is. https://dianeengelhardt.substack.com/p/monsters

Good choices. Kamala really demonstrated her ineptness as a politician. She couldn't fool us into thinking she wasn't a monster even after spending over a billion dollars on her "joy" campaign. Imagine that! It gives me hope that most folks have the ability to discern who is a monster beneath the false shell.

She might have done better if she wasn't a woman and a mixed race woman. Her biggest liability is being attached at the hip to Joe Biden. Ridin' with Biden sealed her fate. We know her unethical values is/was her 1st error.

I think Kamala could have done better if she had a conscience and an ounce of morality. Nobody I know had anything against her gender or color. That's placing blame on people for not voting for her and the blame is hers alone. She's "Kopmala" who kept in prison thousands in California in order to use them as slave labor to fight fires, etc. She's a greedy capitalist who endorsed genocide and gave cover to genocidaires like Netanyahu. Truly an evil monster in her own right.

I'm aware of her history. A certain type of men are misogynists. These would not vote for her. I'd guess many of this type are white supremacists as well. These vote MAGA.

I marvel at your talent at drawing parallels between geopolitics and other aspects of human activity as you have in this article. I’ve never been a fan of horror movies but what is happening in the world at present surely is more beastly than most films of that genre. Thanks for this gem of an article.

Thank you for your kind words, Chris. I'm one of those "big picture" people who see large, over-arcing patterns in all of human activities that ties them together. It's like the first meme says, "Life is beautiful, but the system is ugly." The ugliness we're seeing in all aspects of our lives is coming from the same source--the corrupt system that causes endless wars, horrific genocides, and prevents Americans from having a single-payer health care plan. Some call it "capitalism" but it's almost too good of a term for it. It's really just naked greed and hate.

I wish this was a funny horror movie, but it isn't alas. The monsters are real and they've fooled millions into thinking they're the heroes of the story. We've got our work cut out for us this coming year. Down with the monsters! Up with the workers of the world!

It's amazing how well the monsters camouflage themselves into appearing to be well-dressed, well-mannered "humans", isn't it? But all it takes is one horrific action (or lack of action) on their part to expose the monster within. We've seen a lot of monsters revealing themselves these past 15 months, and I'm sure we'll see more than a few in the new year. We've just gotta get the people to focus on those reveals and forget the propaganda spin.

Hi Cindy

We’ve sooooo much work to do in the coming New Year in order to make it “Happy”. I fear that in order to achieve this, we’ll be experiencing some profound unhappiness; as I’ve mentioned many times, we CANNOT BE AFRAID TO DIE when the Revolution ensues. And full-fledged revolution is the only answer. I believe that Luigi is only the beginning; he was willing to sacrifice himself in order to draw attention to the abysmal healthcare system.

May we all have Luigi’s courage of convictions.

We definitely need more brave leaders to help draw attention to the corruption in the system. The next move is probably the US oligarchy's when they lamely (and possibly violently) attempt to excuse their sick health care system and constant need for warfare and lawfare against the workers of the world. I believe this will be the turning point for happily ever after or not. Until then, keep spreading the message and waking up those who are still asleep. Power to the people!
